It's quite work intensive chargrilling aubergine and courgette but its an opportunity for my other half to help in the kitchen and we always have a laugh and glass of wine while we're cooking. The lasagne also has lentils, tomatoes, peppers and lots of lovely cheese...we're usually too full to move afterwards

ReplyDeleteMy favourite at the moment is pasta in a spicy tomato sauce with veg. Its low fat and healthy, so tasty and full of fresh herbs and spices. We get a huge bowlful to eat so it takes a satisfying amount of time to eat plus it stays hot in the bowl unlike alot of things! Oh and it goes perfectly with a bottle of red wine!

It's the only time of the week we get to sit down to a meal as a family and have time to enjoy and savour what we are actually eating. ReplyDeleteThis may sound simple, Sunday evenings are French toast night. They must be cut diagonally and soaked in a bowl of fork whisked eggs. We put the pan on a really high heat then place them in the sizzle pan. When they smell just right we pop them in the grill to keep them warm. Next we pile them all on one platter and everybody helps themselves. I love cracked black pepper on mine.

The young because it is soft and slurpy, the older of us because it is tasty and hits all those points, such as one pot dish, family eating together. But, for me it has to be the fact that I can hide grated carrot, celery and other vegetables in there for nutrition and THEY haven't got a clue!!

ReplyDeleteI love making casseroles. Don't use a recipe, just use whatever is in season from the garden in the summer or from the freezer in the winter plus anything I can find in the fridge. With or without meat is equally delicious :)

ReplyDeleteI love to make (and eat) smoked haddock & chorizo fishcakes. It's a great all year round dish, and one that my little on can enjoy helping with.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite home cooked meal is a beef casserole. You can go out, leaving it to cook slowly and return to delicious smells and even better flavour as all the vegetables and meat have enhanced one another or you can torture yourself by staying home and savouring it as it cooks. It warms the kitchen and warms the cockles of your heart, too.

I love home-made chicken korma with home-made gluten-free garlic naan bread it is heavenly. It just brings back memories of my travels and also being able to have naan bread on a gluten-free diet is a real blessing to me.
ReplyDeleteI love a homemade leek soup, because it is so quick and easy to make, and is warming and comforting on these cold winter evenings, with crusty bread and family banter :)
ReplyDeleteMy favourite home cooked meal is roast chicken, not least because it's delicious but it also reminds me of my childhood and there's the added bonus of chicken sandwiches and chicken stew with dumplings later in the week.
